Mukurtu Language
A New Platform
The Mukurtu content management system (CMS) is the display home of the Hoocak Waazija Haci Language Division archives, offered as another language learning resource to our Nation, our language learners, our instructors, and anyone who wants to learn more about Hoocak language and culture. Our audio and video recordings, in particular, offer learners the opportunity to hear Hoocak from our own Hoocak first-language speakers.
This CMS, or website, is managed by the Midwest Mukurtu Hub through a partnership between the Language Division and WiLS (Wisconsin Library System). All of the Division’s original and digital archives are securely stored and kept at the Hoocak Waazija Haci Language Division. The Division’s curated Mukurtu website features collections of audio, video and written language materials. Each collection has “communities” or groups of users who are granted access to view the materials within each collection.
Each user must complete a registration form. Administrators will determine each user’s community based on their language interests, proficiency, and/or relationship to the materials. For now, much of the material on Mukurtu (in its initial phase) is open access.
